The Murksong Renaissance
Susan Franklin came to Caldrin City with a small fleet of ships and a dream of finding gold buried deep within the dangerous Bruxheim forest. Three years later, her dream had become a nightmare, and she was brutally killed by a Gnoll raid deep within the mine she’d toiled endlessly to dig. Her dig had not been without fruits, however, and her only living relative, Jiona, inherited a mildly successful mining operation and a small estate on the Cazé Ridge, adjacent to the Carthwright estate. Jiona married a Dwarven businessman from the mainland, Redgar Forsyth, though their children Albrecht and Jericho kept the more respectable Franklin name. Jiona was also responsible for the construction of the Franklin Belltower, which most of the city’s residents use for timekeeping. She has since passed away of natural causes.
The Franklin family has made a name for itself in the political field, with the younger Albrecht Franklin becoming the front runner in a campaign to replace incumbent mayor Bradley Borsford. The handsome Albrecht has a sterling reputation of fighting for laborer’s rights, allocation of city funds to help the poor and infirm, and worker equality, making him a dangerous opponent to Borsford’s incompetence and scandal.
